Division Descriptions:
TBALL: T-Ball Division baseball is a simplified version of youth baseball. This is entry-level and designed to help players develop basic skills in hitting, fielding, and throwing. In T-ball, the ball is placed on a tee rather than being pitched, making it easier for players to hit the ball. This division is for players that are 3.5- 5 years old, but 5-year olds with experience playing T-ball should consider stepping up to the Rookie Division.
ROOKIE: Rookie Division baseball is a beginner-level version of youth baseball. It’s a step up from T-ball, with the major change being that players will now see pitchers from a mechanical pitching machine with a tee used as backup if necessary. All other T-ball rules apply in terms of baserunning, fielding, etc. The fields are the same size as T-Ball fields. This division is for 5-year olds with experience playing T-ball and all 6-year olds. Players who are 7 should play in the Minors Division.
MINORS: Minors Division baseball is an intermediate step between the beginner-level T-Ball and Rookie divisions and the more advanced Major League divisions. Games are played on fields with 60' between bases. At this level, players start pitching/catching, traditional balls/strikes/outs rules come into play, and baserunning concepts are introduced. This division is for players that are 7-8.
MAJOR 60’S: Major 60’s Division Baseball is an upper level of youth baseball with more advanced base stealing rules, and it is exclusively player pitch. Typically pitching becomes more accurate at this level. Games are still played on fields with 60' basepaths. This is when the progression starts to look a bit more like traditional baseball with some introduction of offensive and defensive strategy. This division is for players that are 9-10.
MAJOR 70’S; Major 70’s Division baseball is the uppermost division of Cal Ripken youth baseball. At this level, the field grows from 60’ to 70’ basepaths and the distance from the pitching rubber to homeplate jumps from 46’ to 50’. The larger field will help players eventually transition to a full-size 90’ infield. At this level, pitching speeds increase, traditional stealing rules and pick-offs become part of the game, and offensive/defensive strategies begin to really take shape. This division is for players that are 11-12.
